Lab Execution System

Paperless method execution, right first time

Turn SOPs into guided, interactive workflows that check every reagent, instrument and calculation as the analyst works, so errors are prevented rather than found in review.

Overview

Enforce the procedure, do not just document it

Paper worksheets and static electronic forms record what happened. They do not stop an analyst from using an expired standard, an out-of-calibration balance or a superseded method version, and reviewers end up checking every line by hand.

HDLIMS LES executes methods step by step on any bench device. Each step can verify materials and equipment, capture readings straight from instruments, run calculations and check results against limits before the analyst moves on. Deviations are captured at the moment they occur, with context.

What changes for your lab

Right-first-time execution

Errors are prevented at the step where they would occur, instead of discovered days later in review.

Shorter review cycles

Review by exception focuses QA effort on the small set of entries that need judgment.

Paperless labs

Retire paper worksheets and logbooks along with the scanning, archiving and reconciliation they require.

Capabilities

Core LES capabilities

Step-by-step SOP guidance

Ordered steps with instructions, images and mandatory inputs that mirror the approved method version.

Instrument and balance capture

Read values directly from balances, pH meters, titrators and other instruments, eliminating manual transcription.

Real-time verification

Block expired reagents, uncalibrated equipment and analysts without current training before work starts.

Inline calculations and limits

Calculations run as data is entered, with immediate feedback when a value falls outside acceptance criteria.

Bench-ready interface

Touch-friendly layouts for tablets and bench PCs, with barcode scanning for materials and equipment.

No-code method authoring

Build and version executable methods in a visual editor, then route them through review and approval.

Capture at the source

Data enters the record once, from the instrument

Readings are pulled from connected instruments and stamped with the instrument ID, calibration status and analyst, so the record is complete and attributable by design.

  • Direct capture from balances, pH meters, titrators and spectrophotometers
  • Automatic recording of equipment ID and calibration status per reading
  • Reagent and standard lots scanned and checked against expiry
  • Contemporaneous time stamps for every action

Review by exception

Reviewers focus on what actually needs attention

Because the system has already verified materials, equipment, calculations and limits, reviewers see a concise summary of exceptions instead of re-checking every entry.

  • Exception summary highlighting manual entries, overrides and comments
  • Configurable review rules by method risk
  • Deviation capture at the step where it occurred
  • Signed review with full drill-down to the underlying audit trail

FAQ

LES: frequently asked questions

What is a Lab Execution System (LES)?
An LES guides analysts through laboratory procedures step by step, enforcing the approved method and capturing data as work is performed. It complements a LIMS, which manages the overall sample and test workflow.
Do we need to rewrite our SOPs to use HDLIMS LES?
Not usually. Existing methods are converted into executable steps in the visual editor. Many labs use the conversion as an opportunity to simplify and harmonize methods across sites.
Which instruments can LES connect to?
Balances, pH meters, titrators, Karl Fischer, UV-Vis and many other bench instruments can be connected through serial, network or file-based interfaces. See Integrations.
