LIMS migration

Replace your legacy LIMS without losing a record

Moving off an aging LIMS is one of the highest-value projects a lab can take on, and one of the riskiest when done poorly. Our migration methodology protects your data, your validated state and your lab’s day-to-day operations.

Signs it’s time

Is your LIMS holding your lab back?

If several of these sound familiar, your current system is likely costing more than it saves.

Every change needs a consultant

Simple workflow changes require custom code, vendor services and re-validation.

Upgrades keep getting postponed

You are several major versions behind because upgrading means a multi-year project.

Paper fills the gaps

Worksheets, logbooks and spreadsheets run alongside the LIMS because it cannot handle them.

Infrastructure is end of life

Operating systems, databases or client software are approaching end of support.

Data is siloed

LIMS, ELN, instrument data and quality records live in separate systems with fragile interfaces.

Users work around it

Adoption is low and experienced staff are the only ones who can navigate the system.

Migrating from

Experienced with the systems labs are leaving

Our migration approach works with established commercial LIMS, ELNs, in-house systems and paper-based processes. We map your existing configuration and data model to HDLIMS and plan around your validation and retention obligations.

Methodology

Six steps to a safe migration

Repeatable, rehearsed and verified, so cutover is a planned event rather than a leap of faith.

1. Assess

Inventory your current system: configuration, master data, record volumes, interfaces, customizations and retention obligations.

2. Decide

Agree what migrates as live data, what is archived read-only, and what is retired, based on risk and regulatory need.

3. Map

Translate products, specifications, methods and workflows into HDLIMS configuration, harmonizing where it adds value.

4. Migrate

Automated, repeatable extraction and load with cleansing rules, run in rehearsal cycles before the final cutover.

5. Verify

Reconciliation reports and risk-based sampling demonstrate completeness and accuracy of migrated records.

6. Cut over

Big-bang or phased by site and lab, with rollback plans and hypercare support.

Migration assessment

Know the scope, risks and plan before you commit

Our migration assessment reviews your current system, data and interfaces, and delivers a clear recommendation: what to migrate, what to archive, how long it will take and what it will cost.

  • Inventory of configuration, customizations and interfaces
  • Data profiling: volumes, quality issues and retention needs
  • Migrate / archive / retire recommendations by record type
  • Validation strategy for the migrated data
  • Phased roadmap with timeline and budget estimate

FAQ

Migration questions

Can historical results and audit trails be migrated?
Historical results and master data can be migrated into HDLIMS. Legacy audit trails are typically preserved as read-only archived records linked to the migrated data, so their original context is retained for the full retention period.
Do we have to keep our old LIMS running?
Usually not. Records that are not migrated as live data can be archived into a read-only HDLIMS archive with search and export, allowing you to decommission the legacy system and its infrastructure.
How long does a LIMS migration take?
It depends on the number of sites, data volume, integrations and how much harmonization you want. A migration assessment gives you a realistic plan and timeline before you commit.
Can we run HDLIMS and our legacy LIMS in parallel?
Yes. Phased cutovers, by lab, site or workflow, are common and reduce risk. Interfaces can keep shared master data synchronized during the transition.
